So the new year is here... 5 days in and somehow it feels exactly like the last year. Nothing seems to have changed... same home, same job, same pay, same car, same bike, same country, same people with the same level of intellect! Bloody idiots!

 

I'm sorry if I sound a little ticked off, but that is only because I am. We, Pakistanis/ Muslims have a big problem and that is lack of tolerance. Not all of us have the problem, but there's enough to give us a bad rap. Now you're thinking, "but that been happening since 9/11... why does he have to write about it now?". I'll tell you why...

 

I recently I got a scrap on orkut (if you don't know what orkut is, just an online community... btw, are you from this planet?) to go to certain profiles and report them as bogus as they were marring the sanctity of certain religious figures. I tried the links (not posting them here because I don't want to promote the profiles) and it was horrible... more than horrible, appaling... disgusting... its been over a day and I still want to throw up! Essentially some Shi'ia person(s) decided to put these up, and in case you are unaware, Shi'ia sect endorses that the first three Caliphs in Islam after the Holy Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, should not have been Caliphs at all. In fact, there is a a pretty large element of hate towards them. So these sites seem to be a manifestation of that hate. Calling them names, pictures of animals, etc. etc.

 

But these profiles/ sites had one thing in common: links to other (anti-Shi'ia) profiles and messages that if these profiles were closed, these people would close their profane "anti Caliphs" websites. The sites they were provided links to were all about how Shi'ia's are 'kafirs' (nonbeleivers) and how they should be killed. Disgusted... appalled... need to throw up!

 

I'm not aware why we cannot live in peace, just tolerate each other's beliefs and not butt our heads into everything. There's religious differences all over the world, but people don't create websites defaming religious figures and discrediting other beliefs, at least not as much as our people tend to do... and that too without rhyme or reason. I mean, its one thing to have a scholarly website on religion and arguing about superiority, and quite another to just start shouting at each other and declaring other's beliefs as false!

 

IDIOTS! IDIOTS! IDIOTS!

 

Orkut is a cyber-community, and it seems like we can't even live there without bringing aur sectarian notions to surface... we have a long way to go before we can start living in real communities happily and at peace with each other.
